The Broadway musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will make its Hong Kong debut on 4 November at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved story to life in a spectacular stage production filled with imagination, music and dazzling visual effects.
Presented by Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket as he enters Willy Wonka’s magical chocolate factory after discovering a coveted golden ticket. Audiences can expect elaborate sets, chocolate waterfalls, lively Oompa-Loompas and theatrical illusions designed by Las Vegas magic expert Tim Clothier.
The production features classic songs from the 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man”, alongside new music by award-winning composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Daniel Plimpton stars as Willy Wonka, with Oliver Wong as Charlie Bucket. Producers say the show aims to deliver a joyful, immersive experience for audiences of all ages.
