Hong Kong’s men’s foil team made history at the 2026 Fencing World Championships, winning the city’s first-ever silver medal in a team event after a thrilling final against Italy.

The team of Edgar Cheung Ka-long, Ryan Choi Chun-yin, Harris Ho and Leung Chin-yu came within one touch of the world title, holding a 40-36 lead before Italy completed a late comeback to win 45-44.

The result marked Hong Kong’s best performance in the men’s team foil event, surpassing the bronze medal achieved in 2023. It was also the city’s first medal at this year’s championships.

Hong Kong reached the final for the first time after defeating the United States 45-43 in the semi-finals. The historic achievement has boosted confidence ahead of the Asian Games in September, highlighting the continued strength and progress of Hong Kong fencing.
