Hong Kong is set to welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival with a new international lantern exhibition bringing traditional craftsmanship from around the world to Victoria Park.

The inaugural International Lantern Spectacular, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, will feature thousands of lanterns from 20 countries and regions from September 17 to 27, under the theme of reunion.

Its centrepiece, the World Lantern Boulevard, will showcase silk lanterns from South Korea, colourful patchwork designs from Brazil and Polish lanterns incorporating traditional paper-cutting techniques.

Craftsmen from Nanjing will also create four giant Qinhuai lanterns using a 1,700-year-old technique recognised as national intangible cultural heritage.

The exhibition will run alongside the annual Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival, with traditional lantern-making and other festive activities, while the nearby Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will take place from September 24 to 26.
