This summer, Hong Kong will host an exciting exhibition centered around the immensely popular Japanese manga series Chiikawa. Launching at K11 MUSEA and the Tsim Sha Tsui Harbourfront, this immersive event will showcase a wide array of classic Chiikawa scenes, focusing on four key themes: clothing, food, shelter, and action.
Visitors can look forward to a unique outdoor display featuring multiple giant inflatable sculptures that invite them into the whimsical everyday adventures of Chiikawa and friends. The exhibition will feature over 100 3D sculptures, a striking 9-meter-tall inflatable set piece, and lifelike recreations of beloved scenes from the manga.
A notable highlight of the event will be the debut of eight characters specially designed for Hong Kong, inspired by the city’s iconic yum cha culture. These include Chiikawa Chinese thousand-layer cake, Hachiware Chinese sausage roll, Usagi siu mai, Momonga glutinous rice dumpling, Shisa rice roll, Kurimanju beef siu mai, Rakko sponge cake, and Furuhonya har gow.
Chiikawa, short for "something small and cute," is the name of the hamster protagonist created by Japanese artist Nagano.
