The 2025 International Wing Chun Matiral Arts Competition in Foshan kicked off with a showstopper: the AI-powered Smart Wooden Dummy.

A cornerstone of Wing Chun martial arts training, the traditional wooden dummy has now gone high-tech. This intelligent version captures every move with stunning precision—each strike’s angle, force, speed, and intensity is measured the moment it lands. The system instantly calculates scores based on power and speed, flashing real-time results on a digital screen.

“The dummy is equipped with advanced technology including multiple airbags, 3D cameras, high-speed cameras, visual sensors, and pressure sensors. These components work together to gather detailed data on punch frequency, force, and other key metrics.”

Acting as a ‘digital judge,’ the smart dummy was first trialed last year and has since been supercharged for even sharper accuracy. Now it translates movement quality into quantifiable data, delivering objective and fair scoring like never before.
