[Inno & Tech] Tailored Seeds, Bigger Harvests: Tianjin’s Cauliflowers Aid Pakistan
: :

Pakistani Peasant

In recent years the climate has changed unpredictably, weather is hard to read and local varieties cannot guarantee yields. But Chinese seeds survive in adversity, secure our livelihoods.

At the Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences Breeding Base, experts are testing over 1,000 new cauliflower combinations, all tailored specifically for Pakistani buyers’ demands.

Zhang Xiaoli, Associate Researcher:

Because foreign eating habits are different, they prefer the firmer type. Something that matures a little earlier, has better disease resistance, and tolerates high heat. This whole plot is for selecting those for them.

The trial plots are a living laboratory, focused squarely on identifying varieties that are firmer, earlier maturing, more disease resistant, and better able to tolerate high heat.

Sun Deling, Chief Scientist:

Countries like Pakistan mostly rely on Europe, Japan and even the United States. Only if your variety is better and offers better value will they consider using it.

Tianjin now supplies seeds for roughly 80% of Pakistan’s cauliflower acreage, collaborating with local partners on trials and grower training—turning one seed into a far wider agricultural partnership.
