Chinese automaker Geely has launched the world’s largest vehicle safety testing centre in Ningbo, east China’s Zhejiang Province, strengthening its push to advance global automotive safety standards.
The Geely Safety Centre brings together cutting-edge technologies and a wide range of real-world driving scenarios. It houses the world’s longest indoor crash-test track, nearly 300 metres in length, designed to replicate complex traffic collisions. A four-way rotating wall enables multiple impact tests, including frontal, offset and small-overlap crashes, to be carried out efficiently.
The facility can also simulate 264 weather conditions, using meteorological and road data from more than 50 countries to support all-weather testing indoors. In addition, it features the world’s largest Guinness-certified automotive wind tunnel, capable of recreating extreme temperatures and high-altitude environments.
Geely has invested over 28 million U.S. dollars in developing a family of 60 crash-test dummies, including the advanced THOR model. Described as “the most expensive crash test dummy in the industry”, it is equipped with more than 180 sensors for high-precision data collection, down to specific rib displacement.
