Guangzhou South Station, a major transportation hub in Guangzhou, has recently introduced a new facility. A solar-powered parking canopy covering more than 20,000 square meters has officially been put into operation, transforming the station’s parking area into the first integrated parking facility in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to combine solar power generation, charging, parking, car washing, and leisure services. The upgrade provides a more comfortable parking environment while enhancing green energy efficiency.
The canopy provides shade while generating 15,000–18,000 kWh of electricity daily. The green energy will first supply the parking lot and nearby facilities, with surplus electricity fed into the grid. The system is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 546 tons annually. As Guangzhou Public Transport Group’s first “solar + parking” green energy project, it fills a regional gap in integrated parking facilities and offers a replicable and scalable model for urban transport hubs pursuing carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
