[Tech Trends] Hong Kong Unveils Plans for Landmark AI Data Centre
: :

Hong Kong is set to strengthen its position as a regional artificial intelligence hub with plans to develop the city’s largest home-grown AI data centre by 2030.

The project follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and local AI company SenseTime. The data centre will be developed in three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Once fully operational, the facility aims to deliver 40,000 petaflops of computing power by 2030, providing advanced resources for AI model training across a wide range of industries. The centre will feature a diverse mix of graphics processing units sourced internationally, supporting innovation and accelerating the adoption of AI applications.

The initiative will complement Hong Kong’s broader AI ambitions, including the planned data facility cluster at Sandy Ridge, which is expected to boost the city’s total computing capacity to 180,000 petaflops by 2032.
