[Tech Trends] Pesticide-Free Mosquito Control Device Debuts Across Chengdu
: :

The smart mosquito control device “Iron Dragonfly” has recently been rolled out at two sites in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province. It first entered trial operation at the Qingyang Headquarters Economic Base (South Zone) before being deployed at Chengdu People’s Park.

It lures mosquitoes by mimicking human body heat and releasing carbon dioxide and sweat-like odors, then traps them with a negative-pressure fan and kills them through air-drying. Using purely physical methods without chemical pesticides, it operates day and night without harming beneficial insects such as bees and dragonflies.

Equipped with multispectral imaging and deep-learning algorithms, it identifies mosquito species, monitors population density, and sends alerts and distribution heat maps to a cloud platform when thresholds are breached. Weather-resistant, each unit covers a radius of 25 meters.

Its data can feed into fine-grained urban governance platforms to support mosquito-borne disease prevention. Suitable for parks, residential areas, schools and hospitals, the device can also be deployed in mosquito-prone zones. The Qingyang base pilot aims to establish a “mosquito-free zone” demonstration site.
