According to the worldometers website, the world population, reaches 8.08 billion in January 2024 with a growth rate of 0.91% per year on average, adding around 73 million people per year to the total. 4.3 births and 2.0 deaths are expected worldwide every second.

Topping the list of largest countries by population are India and China, which have 1.43 billion and 1.42 billion people respectively. The U.S is on the third place with a population of about 340 million.

Population growth rate of the U.S. is slow in the past decade and down to 0.5% in past few years. If the trend continues, the 2020s could be the slowest growing decade in U.S. history, worse than the time following the Great Depression.
