Following the excitement of the Qiantang River’s world-famous tidal bore, villages in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, are taking the experience to new heights. Building on the region’s fame, local communities are transforming the natural wonder into a hub of leisure and adventure with fresh new ways for visitors to enjoy the phenomenon up close.

While many visitors still gather along the shore for the traditional view, Jianshan Village now offers a thrilling new perspective – paragliding. “When the tide comes in, our tourist numbers surge. During peak times, we can handle around 200 flights daily,” a coach at the paraglider base told a Chinese news outlet.

Nearby, Haichao Village is also joining the wave, delighting visitors with views from a riverside cafe, while others enjoy motorboating, power surfing, and fresh local cuisine from nearby farms and orchards. “It’s very beautiful here… I feel so close to nature,” said visitor Zhao Mengyi to a Chinese news outlet.
