An expanded section of north China’s Shijiazhuang City’s urban ring greenway is now fully open to the public, offering residents a refreshed space for cycling, jogging and leisurely walks. The second phase of the project, launched in March 2023, has wrapped up after two years of construction, with the final link completed on 3 December following the rotation of a swivel bridge across the Shijiazhuang–Taiyuan High-speed Railway.

Together, the two phases form a continuous 101-kilometre corridor, comprising over 55 kilometres of pathways and 81 bridges. The route connects major waterways, the Hutuo River, Taiping River and the city’s ring water system, while linking 76 parks and gardens. Plans call for 18 service stations and 56 entrances to support easy access.

Clear separation between cycling and walking lanes, marked by a rainbow-coloured line, has made the greenway a popular winter fitness spot. “It really provides us cycling enthusiasts with an excellent sports venue,” said Zhao Zesong, while fellow rider Zhang Luheng praised the many repair and rental facilities “which makes our daily cycling very convenient.”
