A winter carnival has brought festive energy to Shanghai’s Bund Finance Centre (BFC), transforming the iconic waterfront into a lively seasonal destination. At the heart of the celebration is a 300-square-metre ice-skating rink with a professional-grade surface, enhanced by immersive lighting and artificial snowfall, welcoming skaters of all ages and abilities.
Visitors are also drawn by circus performances, night-time entertainment and a bustling winter market. One local skater said the experience “really took me back… it was so much fun”, noting the beginner-friendly skating aids. Adding to the atmosphere is the debut of Circus Players, a high-energy show blending acrobatics, mime, singing and live DJ music. As one performer put it, “It’s a little bit cold, but good audience with their smile make us warm.”
After the shows, crowds gather at the night market for street food, drinks and relaxed socialising. As part of Shanghai’s push to boost its winter nighttime economy, BFC has extended operating hours until midnight to showcase “the unique charm of the Bund after dark.”
