China’s coldest months are bringing picturesque winter landscapes and lively ice activities to visitors across the country.

In Shuangyashan, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, where temperatures drop below minus 16°C, sports enthusiasts embrace winter swimming and ice fishing. “As soon as I jump into the water, I feel completely relaxed and refreshed,” said winter swimmer Lu Yongji. Ice fishing competitors gather on frozen reservoirs, enjoying both the challenge and the camaraderie. “Winning isn't important. What's important is having fun,” noted participant Lan Xurong.

Visitors can also sample local winter treats, from candied hawthorn skewers to sticky rice dumplings, at nearby street markets. In northwest Xinjiang’s Tianchi Lake scenic area, tourists enjoy the Big Pot Mutton Festival, live music and dance performances, and discounted ski resort tickets. “Being able to taste mutton and enjoy performances is really great,” said a visitor.

Over ten new ice entertainment projects will launch in January, promising an even more exciting winter season.
