A festive lantern show has lit up the Flower Expo Park in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, ushering in warm wishes for the upcoming New Year of 2026.
The themed event spans five exhibition zones and features more than 100 large-scale lantern installations. Highlights include a striking group of 13-metre-tall galloping horses, as well as lanterns inspired by Chinese mythology, enhanced by finely tuned lighting effects.
Wang Fan, an organiser of the lantern show, said the show blends traditional mythology with a sci-tech touch. One display of Goddess Nuwa repairing the sky includes an interactive feature where “Nuwa will lift the colourful stones and slowly rise to the top”.
Young visitors have also been captivated. “They are magnificent, beautiful, and lovely,” said child visitor Zhao Ying.
Running until March 8, 2026, the lantern show will host special programmes during major holidays, alongside a food market and heated rest areas for visitors.
