As Beijing’s schools begin their winter holiday, the annual ice-and-snow carnival at Yuanmingyuan Park, also known as the Old Summer Palace, is drawing a steady rise in visitors.
This year’s event spans about 80,000 square metres, the largest ice-and-snow area ever set up at the park, and has quickly become a favourite winter destination for families seeking outdoor fun. Parents and children flock to the park to experience snow activities and make the most of the seasonal break.
“My kid happens to just have started her winter vacation, so I bring her here to get more contact with snow and enjoy the fun of playing with it," said Chen Nihua, a local resident.
The ice field features a 46-lane snow-tubing run, along with electric sleds and snow zorbing. According to park manager Wang Xiaodong, the site now receives “more than 300 visits daily”.
