[China Thrills] Rare Vultures Observed in Remote Mountains of Xinjiang
: :

A group of vultures, a species under China’s national Grade-I protection, has been observed in the snow-covered mountains north of Karamay City in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, highlighting the area’s healthy natural environment.

As the sun set over the rugged landscape, several vultures were seen resting calmly on mountain ridges, their dark brown feathers catching the soft evening light. Nearby, others glided steadily across the sky, their wings stretching more than three metres as they circled above the peaks.

The mountainous region north of Karamay provides favourable conditions for the birds, with a stable ecosystem, ample open space and limited human activity. These factors make it a suitable habitat for large birds of prey that rely on undisturbed terrain to thrive.

The sighting reflects ongoing improvements in wildlife conservation and habitat protection in the region, offering a positive sign for the long-term survival of protected species in Xinjiang.
