[China Thrills] Giant Pandas Debut in Xinjiang After Smooth Relocation

Two giant pandas, Bao Yuan and De Rui, have delighted visitors with their public debut at the Water Park Panda Pavilion in Urumqi, capital of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, after settling into their new home following their arrival on February 5.

Bao Yuan, aged four and a half, and five-and-a-half-year-old De Rui were transferred from the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda in Sichuan Province. Crowds of eager visitors lined up to catch a glimpse of the pair, drawn by their playful charm and gentle nature.

To ensure their comfort, fresh bamboo is transported from Sichuan through a dedicated cold-chain delivery system. According to a panda keeper, the supply arrives “still very fresh”.

The pavilion is also equipped with temperature and humidity controls, intelligent sprinklers, underfloor heating and a fresh air system to help the pandas adapt to Xinjiang’s climate.

Under attentive care from locally trained staff, the two pandas are settling in happily, bringing joy to visitors and marking a new attraction for the city.
