The Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) is marking its 25th anniversary with "Treasure-Hunt Stories: A 25-Year Cinematic Journey", a free exhibition running from July 31 to May 9, 2027, at its Exhibition Hall in Sai Wan Ho.

The exhibition traces the archive's efforts to preserve Hong Kong's cinematic heritage through acquisitions and film restoration. Visitors can discover remarkable stories behind rare finds from around the world, including long-lost pre-war Hong Kong films uncovered in a San Francisco basement and invaluable collections donated by cinema owners and film enthusiasts.

Around 100 film clips spanning the 1930s to the 2000s showcase donations from 25 representative contributors, while a restoration station reveals the meticulous craft of repairing and preserving ageing film reels. Interactive displays, hands-on activities and student-designed games offer a closer look at film conservation, with recreated archive spaces and immersive installations bringing Hong Kong's rich film history to life.
