The Hong Kong Film Archive will present "Cine Memories of the War of Resistance" from August 29 to September 3, offering free screenings of two films that explore stories of courage and resilience during wartime.

The programme features the drama "Gezhi Town" (2025), which follows factory worker Mo Dexian, an air defence officer and a group of survivors as they join forces to protect a remote mountain town after a Japanese reconnaissance unit arrives.

Also screening is "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" (2024), directed by Chinese geophysicist and filmmaker Fang Li. The documentary retraces the true story of Chinese fishermen who risked their lives to rescue British prisoners of war after a Japanese transport ship was sunk during World War II. Post-screening talks with Hong Kong film researcher Dr Henry Chiu will follow the documentary.

All screenings will be held at the Hong Kong Film Archive Cinema. Free tickets are available from the archive's information counter, with a limited number of walk-in tickets also offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
