Macau is alive with colour, energy and pride as the city co-hosts the 15th National Games with Guangdong and Hong Kong – the first tri-regional edition in the event’s 66-year history. Streets are adorned with vibrant banners and statues of mascots Xiyangyang and Lerongrong, the symbols of joy and unity of this year’s Games.
At the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory site in the historic Taipa district, a lively community fun day brought the Games’ spirit to life, featuring interactive booths for basketball, table tennis, badminton and karate. “I’m so happy to have these games, to play and to receive these gifts” said student Can Ji Tung.
For many young people, the event has sparked new sporting dreams. “We also hope to represent Macau in… basketball competitions at the National Games when we grow up,” said student Jim Fong Jyu.
With eight events hosted locally, residents are embracing the excitement of sport and the shared pride of the Games.
