As spring arrives in Lingnan, the season’s first blossoms appear. At the famed Yuyin Shanfang Garden in Guangzhou’s Panyu District, a rare white-flowering tabebuia tree is bursting into full bloom.

Unlike the more common golden or purple varieties, this white tabebuia is a horticultural rarity in South China. The garden houses just one such specimen, yet each spring it commands attention as the undisputed centrepiece. Its umbrella-shaped canopy is entirely leafless during peak bloom, with snow-white clusters creating a stunning dialogue with the timeless elegance of the classical Lingnan garden.

As one of the four Great Gardens of Guangdong, Yuyin Shanfang stands as a masterpiece of Lingnan landscaping and Cantonese architectural heritage. Visitors have praised how, against the backdrop of grey brick walls and dark-tiled roofs, this singular white tabebuia radiates an ethereal grace.
