Hong Kong residents are embracing a surge in travel demand ahead of the combined Easter and Ching Ming holiday, with many planning getaways across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
New data from an international travel booking platform shows flight reservations departing Hong Kong have quadrupled year-on-year for the upcoming break, nudging average fares up by around 3 percent. Hotel demand has risen even more sharply, with bookings jumping more than eightfold, and mid- to high-end stays accounting for over 40 percent of reservations.
Backed by efficient cross-boundary transport links, nearby mainland cities are proving especially popular. Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai top the list of preferred destinations, followed by Shanghai and Beijing, while Foshan also ranks among the top choices.
With the holidays overlapping to create a five-day break from April 3 to 7, outbound tourism from Hong Kong is set to see strong growth.
