Jiangmen, located along the southwestern coast of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, has over 4,800 km² of sea area. Shipbuilding, the city’s long-standing pillar industry, has recently achieved a major milestone: a leading local shipbuilder has secured an order worth approximately RMB 1.16 billion from a Swiss client, further raising Jiangmen's profile in the international shipbuilding market.
Over the next four years, the company will deliver five of its flagship products—Ultramax bulk carriers—to the Swiss buyer. Refined through two decades of continuous R&D and upgrades, this vessel has consistently led the market in both quality and sales volume, winning clients across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. As a result, the company has grown into the largest private shipbuilder in Guangdong Province.
This success is no exception. Jiangmen’s four leading shipbuilders and nearly a hundred offshore engineering equipment firms, each with its own strengths, form a synergistic and complementary industrial ecosystem. Together, they account for one-third of the province's shipbuilding output, sustaining double-digit growth in the industry's value. Looking ahead, Jiangmen will accelerate the construction of a high-end shipbuilding base and the R&D of high-tech vessels, continuing to boost the shipbuilding industry.
