Guangdong’s ocean economy continued to lead the nation in 2025, surpassing 2 trillion yuan and maintaining its position as China’s top marine economy for the 31st consecutive year.
The province’s marine sector remains a key driver of economic growth, with strengths in marine transport, tourism, offshore energy and advanced seawater utilisation. It has also built a number of large-scale industry clusters that support activities ranging from marine fisheries and offshore wind power to oil and gas engineering and marine equipment manufacturing.
Emerging marine industries have become an increasingly important growth engine, while the province’s marine manufacturing sector continues to expand its share of overall ocean-related output. Shipbuilding and exports of marine equipment also recorded solid growth, reinforcing Guangdong’s position as a leading maritime manufacturing hub.
Trade in marine products with Belt and Road partner countries also increased, highlighting the province’s growing role in international marine cooperation and commerce.
