Too busy with work to find time for exercise? Guangzhou Metro is piloting a "transit hub + cultural and sports space" model — installing sports facilities inside metro stations to give busy commuters the most convenient workout on their way.
Seven professional pickleball courts and three tennis ball-machine training courts at Tianhe Park Station official opened recently. Covering about 1,600 square meters, the venue operates daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors can take a number on site and enter at their designated time slot; online booking will be available soon.
Member of the public:
"I think it's a great use of space. This is an interchange station, so it's convenient for most people, and it allows more people to discover pickleball."
Li Guang / Guangzhou Metro official:
"During the recent National Day holiday, the venue welcomed around 1,000 visitors in just seven days, with bookings nearing 100% — an overwhelmingly positive response."
Going forward, Guangzhou Metro will continue unlocking the potential of its spaces, expanding accessible sports facilities tailored to each location, and further improving public fitness services.
