More than 1,700 paddlers from 72 teams gathered on Boston’s Charles River on June 14 for the 47th Boston Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, marking the start of the 2026 dragon boat festival season.
Supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, the event drew over 40,000 spectators and celebrated the rich traditions of dragon boat racing while promoting friendship and cultural exchange.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, New York ETO Director Maisie Ho said the festival reflects the values of teamwork, perseverance and community that resonate strongly in both Hong Kong and Boston.
Beyond the races, visitors enjoyed cultural performances, craft demonstrations and Asian cuisine, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the riverfront.
Ho also highlighted the longstanding connections between Hong Kong and Boston, noting growing opportunities in innovation and business collaboration. Boston is the first stop in the New York ETO’s annual dragon boat festival programme, with events in New York and Atlanta scheduled later this summer.
