The city’s first-ever Hong Kong Open pickleball tournament served up four days of fast-paced rallies and plenty of excitement at the Kai Tak Arena. Running from August 21 to 24 as part of the Professional Pickleball Association’s (PPA) Asia Tour – one of the most recognised professional circuits in the world – the event drew over 100 professionals from across Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania.

Fans packed the stands to cheer on the homegrown talent, and local No. 1 seed Wong Hong-kit delivered in style, edging past Vietnam’s No. 2 seed Giang Trinh in a nail-biting singles final that went down to the deciding match. Wong also picked up a second-place finish in the doubles bracket alongside his South Korean partner, Kim Eunggwon.

For Hong Kong, Wong’s triumph wasn’t just a personal win, it was a milestone moment that showcased the city as a rising hub in the global pickleball community.
