A major exhibition dedicated to Labubu and The Monsters has opened at the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, marking 10 years since artist Kasing Lung introduced his “ugly cute” characters. Titled Monsters by Monsters: Now and Then, the exhibition runs until 4 January 2026 and presents original artworks, manuscripts and collectable pieces that chart the development of the series.
More than 800 Labubu toys and figurines are on display, reflecting a decade of collaboration between Lung and designer toy house How2Work, as well as partnerships with Pop Mart and Paradise. The exhibition includes large scale sculptures, preparatory drawings and mirrored installations, alongside Hong Kong exclusive works.
The characters were first developed in 2015 through Lung’s Fairy Trilogy of picture books, which drew on Norse mythology to shape their visual language. Set within the Asia Society’s historic buildings and landscaped grounds, the exhibition also offers insight into Lung’s working process through early sketches and selected personal items from his studio.
