Hong Kong is set to host the country’s first national manufacturing innovation centre outside the mainland, marking a major step in its push to become a leading hub for advanced industries in the Greater Bay Area.
Announced in the city’s 2026–27 Budget, the semiconductor-focused facility will be developed at Yuen Long InnoPark near Shenzhen Bay Port, with around HK$220 million allocated for its creation. Led by the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute, the centre will focus on advanced packaging and other chip technologies, aiming to accelerate breakthroughs and bring research to market more quickly.
The hub is expected to connect the full innovation chain, from basic research to large-scale production, while strengthening collaboration between Hong Kong and mainland manufacturing capabilities. It will also attract global talent and support emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence and healthcare technology.
