Hong Kong International Airport has officially opened its new Terminal 2, marking a major milestone in the airport’s ongoing expansion. Departure services at the new terminal commenced on 27 May, with 15 airlines relocating their check-in operations to the facility. Around 1,500 guests attended an opening ceremony celebrating the launch of the long-awaited development.
Spanning 300,000 square metres, Terminal 2 is designed to enhance efficiency and passenger comfort through extensive use of smart technology. Facilities include facial recognition-enabled e-Security Gates, smart security screening channels and self-service check-in and bag-drop systems.
Airport Authority Hong Kong Chairman Fred Lam described the terminal as a “milestone” for the airport, adding that its streamlined architecture and immersive LED displays aim to create an exciting atmosphere for travellers.
The terminal also features a food court with eight dining outlets, four operating 24 hours a day, alongside 12 retail shops offering travel essentials and souvenirs.
