The Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with the second edition of its "Close Encounters with Master Filmmakers: Movie Talks" series, spotlighting acclaimed director and cinematographer Andrew Lau on September 5 and 6.

The programme features six landmark films spanning Lau's career, from his early work on "Legendary Weapons of China" (1982) and breakthrough as cinematographer on "Mr. Vampire" (1985), to visually striking classics including "City on Fire", "As Tears Go By", "Young and Dangerous 3" and "The Stormriders". The screenings highlight his evolution from cinematographer to one of Hong Kong cinema's most influential commercial directors.

Lau began his career at Shaw Brothers in 1981 before making his directorial debut in 1990. He later found international success with films including "Daisy" (2006) and "The Founding of an Army" (2017).

After each screening, Lau will join film critic Thomas Shin or director Benny Lau for post-screening talks, sharing stories and insights from his filmmaking journey. Tickets are priced at HK$60 and go on sale on August 7.
