Intelligent prosthetic limbs are transforming lives in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province, where advanced bionic technology is helping people with disabilities rediscover sport, creativity and everyday independence.
Rock-climbing enthusiast Lin Yun said his intelligent bionic leg has brought back his passion for movement. With sensors that read neural signals and adjust joint support in real time, the device allows him to run, play ball games and navigate grass or sand. He has even taken up surfing and parachuting. “This prosthetic limb does more than just help me stand up … it gives me tremendous confidence,” he said.
Smart technology has also reshaped the life of Zhou Jian, who lost his right hand in an accident. Since receiving a bionic hand, tasks like gripping bottle caps and peeling fruit have become effortless, and he has even begun learning the piano. “Now I can control all five fingers … almost like I’ve regained the hand I once lost,” he said.
Developers say next-generation prostheses will offer sensory feedback. As BrainCo’s Executive He Xiyujin noted, future users may even “feel the warmth” of a handshake.
