The 21st Guangzhou International Paper Exhibition was recently held, bringing together over 200 leading paper manufacturers and equipment suppliers from China and abroad to showcase the latest technologies and popular products. Specialty paper stood out as a major highlight.

Can paper be washed? One exhibitor introduced a surprising innovation—washable kraft paper. It is not only abrasion-resistant and wrinkle-resistant, but also biodegradable, making it highly eco-friendly. Bags and shoes made from the paper were displayed at the booth, offering a leather-like feel while remaining lightweight.

According to the booth manager, the washable kraft paper can replace genuine leather at just one-third of the cost. It can last 10 to 20 years without oxidation or bubbling, far outlasting PU or genuine leather products, which typically last only three to five years. This durability has made it highly popular in markets such as Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea.

The exhibition also featured dedicated zones for pulping technology and paper chemicals, providing buyers with one-stop solutions for advanced equipment, materials, and design. Foreign buyers noted that Chinese manufacturers stand out for their strong technical expertise, high product quality, and rapid product innovation—key factors driving long-term partnerships.
