China is targeting steady growth in its new-type battery industry by 2030, with stronger innovation and wider applications across the economy.
A development plan jointly issued by seven government departments on Monday sets out key goals for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), including major advances across the industry chain.
The plan calls for breakthroughs in advanced electrode materials and new electrolytes, alongside progress in next-generation battery systems. All-solid-state batteries are expected to enter large-scale application, while long-life lithium batteries will reach a cycle life of 15,000 cycles.
It also encourages closer integration of new-type batteries with clean energy and end-use sectors. The technologies are expected to support smarter devices and accelerate electrification in automobiles, ships, aviation and intelligent robots, contributing to global green and low-carbon development.
New-type batteries include lithium, sodium-ion and flow batteries, which offer broad application potential and rapid technological development.
