Humanoid robots are rapidly finding new roles across China, energising high-tech manufacturing and industrial innovation. At Beijing’s first robot 4S store, over 35 models demonstrate tasks from industrial assembly to pharmacy services, attracting thousands of visitors each month.
In factories, humanoids are increasingly taking over repetitive, high-intensity tasks. At SANY Heavy Energy’s intelligent plant, two full-size robots now collaborate on sorting and moving bolts with remarkable precision. “The robots use visual recognition to assess the difficulty of grasping each bolt…Their operational precision can reach three to five millimetres,” said Xing Tengfei, director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Institute at SANY.
While still less flexible than humans, these robots reduce the need for manual labour in demanding jobs. Beyond manufacturing, they are being tested in energy inspection, emergency response, and commercial services, paving the way for wider adoption in challenging and extreme conditions.
