[Tech Trends] Guangzhou Accelerates Toward an L4 Autonomous Driving Future
: :

The development of Guangzhou's intelligent automotive industry is advancing rapidly. A leading local player has recently established a dedicated Robotaxi division to oversee L4 autonomous driving R&D and operations and has announced that an L4-capable production model will hit the market within two months, bringing autonomous vehicles into everyday urban life.

The company’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model enables vehicles to “perceive the world, understand intent, and take action.” The overall intelligent driving experience is nearly five times better than the industry average, with a full-chain iteration cycle completed every five days. During a recent 5,289 km challenge from Kashgar to Shanghai, autonomous driving accounted for 99.9% of the journey, with the longest single zero-intervention stretch reaching 1,360 km.

In the public transit sector, autonomous driving is also gaining ground. Guangzhou Bus Group has deployed 50 L4 autonomous buses and eight remote operation platforms, operating 30 autonomous routes across the city’s central areas, with the initial framework of an autonomous bus network now taking shape. Going forward, these autonomous buses will gradually form a smart mobility service system integrating commuting, leisure, and sightseeing, paving the way for Guangzhou to become a comprehensive “Smart Vehicle City.”
