Hong Kong's first-ever hydrogen double deck bus is rolled out!
: :

This is a historical moment for the public transport sector in Hong Kong and for Citybus in our journey towards zero-emission! Citybus unveiled a world’s first tri-axle hydrogen double deck bus specifically designed and built for Hong Kong. It is a prototype vehicle designed to showcase the hydrogen fuel cell bus capabilities to meet one of the global most challenging operating environment.

Hydrogen is a well-developed environmentally friendly power source for commercial vehicle applications, with increasing usage around the world. This is Hong Kong’s first public bus to be powered by hydrogen and is yet another milestone achieved by Citybus after the recent introduction of Hong Kong’s first electric double deck bus. There is a great potential for hydrogen to be a future key power source for transportation in Hong Kong.

Bravo Transport Chairman Mr. Cliff Zhang mentioned that the bus is designed by the innovative Citybus’ technical team in Hong Kong, showcasing Hong Kong’s unwavering mission and potential in becoming a technological innovation hub. They have a mission to make Hong Kong a world leading zero-emission transportation technology centre and the large-scale production of next generation “Made in Hong Kong” zero-emission buses. Citybus will continue to work with the government closely to design relevant regulations and ordinances in order to allow the operation of hydrogen vehicles in Hong Kong.

The hydrogen bus begins non-passenger road testing. The hydrogen double bus has already undergone a 200km trial and completed several refuelling operations. Refuelling takes about 10 minutes and allows the bus to travel up to 400km. Training programme for drivers has also been rolled out to ensure the safe operation of both the vehicle and refuelling station. To accomplish the long-term goals of replacing diesel buses with zero-emission buses by 2045, Citybus keeps collecting data for the buses to better understand their road performances, in order to draw up the ratio between electric and hydrogen buses to be used in its fleet.
