[Cultural HK] Taste of Tradition: Kam Kong’s Dim Sum Pushcarts Roll Again
: :

After a HK$7 million revival, the historic Kam Kong Restaurant is set to reopen at Gala Place in Mong Kok, bringing back a slice of Hong Kong’s culinary heritage. The Ngan family, descendants of the famed Lin Heung Tea House, are behind the reinvestment, hoping to preserve a tradition that has defined the city’s dining culture for over a century.

First opened in 1909 by tea house pioneer Tam Ching-po, the Kam Kong Restaurant has lived through the Qing Dynasty, a rebrand as Lin Heung Tea House in 1980, and decades of shifting food trends. Now, it returns with all the charm of old Hong Kong: handmade dim sum delivered by roaming pushcarts, rare vintage dishes, and an atmosphere steeped in nostalgia.

Beyond the menu, Kam Kong aims to celebrate Cantonese culture with street performances and themed “Cantonese Night” events, designed to captivate locals, mainland visitors, and international guests alike. It’s not just a reopening – it’s a revival of Hong Kong’s dining soul.
