[Cultural HK] The Ping Shan Heritage Trail
[Cultural HK] The Ping Shan Heritage Trail
: :

The Ping Shan Heritage Trail, inaugurated in 1993, is the first heritage trail of its kind in Hong Kong. Stretching approximately 1.6 kilometres through Hang Mei Tsuen, Hang Tau Tsuen and Sheung Cheung Wai, it connects a series of traditional buildings that reflect life in the New Territories.

The trail was proposed by the Antiquities Advisory Board and developed by the Antiquities and Monuments Office and the Architectural Services Department. It was made possible through the cooperation of the Tang clan, one of the most historically significant lineages in the region.

The Tang clan established its roots in the area after migrating southward from mainland China centuries ago. Over time, they formed a network of villages known as “Three Wais and Six Tsuen”, including walled villages and surrounding settlements that structured community life in Ping Shan.

The area contains ancestral halls, study halls, temples and a pagoda, reflecting traditions of education, worship and clan organisation. The trail continues to preserve these cultural landscapes and offers insight into traditional village life in Hong Kong’s New Territories.
