The Greater Bay Area Education Heritage Trail traces the shared educational history of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, highlighting the close cultural ties that have shaped the Lingnan region for centuries.
Launched in 2024 as the first cross-regional heritage trail in the Greater Bay Area, the initiative was developed following a 2022 cooperation agreement on archaeological and cultural heritage between the three regions.
The Hong Kong section, curated by the Antiquities and Monuments Office, features 48 historic buildings across 37 sites selected from the city’s declared monuments and graded historic buildings. The sites are organised around four themes, exploring traditional study halls, the development of modern education, the founding of schools and the role of educational institutions during times of conflict.
Together, these historic buildings reflect the region’s long-standing emphasis on learning and document the educational exchanges that connected Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau across generations.
