West Kowloon is aglow as the “National Day Celebration – Chinese Costume Carnival” takes over the Harbourside East Lawn of the Art Park from September 29 to October 2, marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Blending lantern artistry with traditional attire, the carnival introduces Hong Kong’s first-ever giant costume-themed lanterns, offering visitors a unique “daytime carnival + nighttime lantern show” experience. The highlight is the 12.8-metre-tall “Hong Kong Fairy”, the largest figurative lantern ever displayed in the city. Crafted with Sichuan Zigong lantern-making techniques, it fuses traditional motifs with dazzling modern lighting along the Victoria Harbour skyline.
Beyond the lanterns, the carnival offers a wide variety of themed zones to explore. Guests can strike a pose at the Neon Street Photography Stage, try hands-on crafts such as embroidered handkerchiefs at the Chinese Garment Workshop, admire Suzhou embroidery and lacquer fans at the Intangible Heritage Zone, or browse creative treasures at the Cultural Market.
