Each year during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance lights up Causeway Bay with one of Hong Kong’s most spectacular traditions. Dating back to 1880, when Tai Hang was still a small Hakka village, this century-old ritual has grown into a vibrant celebration officially recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
From 5–7 October 2025, at 7:30pm, the 67-metre-long fire dragon – adorned with around 12,000 glowing incense sticks – will wind its way through the narrow streets, filling the night with fire, smoke, and rhythmic energy. The dragon’s head alone weighs 48 kilograms, and it takes 300 performers to carry the mighty creature in a dazzling display of strength and unity.
On 6 October, the tradition will extend to Victoria Park, offering a special performance beyond Tai Hang’s lanes. As the dance concludes, audience members are invited to receive incense sticks from the dragon, a cherished symbol of blessing and good fortune.
