The Hong Kong Heritage Museum has launched “East-West Design Reflections: Haven Collection's Ming Furniture and A Century of Chair Play”, a new exhibition celebrating the lasting influence of Ming-style furniture on contemporary design. Running from May 24 to April 12 next year, the showcase brings together treasured pieces from the Haven Collection alongside modern artistic chairs and internationally renowned furniture designs.

Guest-curated by local designer and artist Freeman Lau, the exhibition explores how traditional Chinese craftsmanship continues to inspire modern creativity. Highlights include a refined horseshoe armchair made from precious huanghuali rosewood and a grand southern elm alcove bed that offers a glimpse into the elegant lifestyles of ancient noble families.

Contemporary works are also featured, including Danish designer Hans J. Wegner’s iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair, alongside innovative creations by Hong Kong artists and designers using techniques such as 3D printing and sustainable upcycled materials. Free to the public, the exhibition also includes talks examining the evolving aesthetics and cultural legacy of Chinese furniture design.
