Film lovers and Chinese opera enthusiasts can revisit some of the genre's most celebrated classics as the Hong Kong Film Archive presents "Gems of Chinese Opera Film" from August 16 to September 20.
Part of the Chinese Culture Festival 2026, the programme features four restored masterpieces from the 1950s and 1960s, showcasing the artistry of Yue, Cantonese and Chaozhou opera on the big screen.
The line-up includes the acclaimed Yue opera adaptation “Dream of the Red Chamber” (1962), the comedy “Bride Hunter” (1961), the 2K digitised Cantonese opera film “The Lost Kite” (1957), and the 2K digitised Chaozhou opera classic “So Luk Neung” (1960), each highlighting distinctive performance styles and timeless stories.
Every screening at the Hong Kong Film Archive Cinema will be followed by a post-screening talk featuring guest speakers, including a stage director, Chinese opera performers and film researchers.
Tickets are priced at HK$60 and will be available through URBTIX from July 17.
