[Cultural HK] Luminous Neon Exhibition Revisits Hong Kong’s Urban Identity
: :

Luminous Neon has opened this winter as a vivid tribute to Hong Kong’s enduring relationship with light, memory and design. Presented by the Hong Kong Design Centre at the DX design hub in Sham Shui Po, the free exhibition runs until 31 January 2026.

Once a defining feature of the city’s streetscape, neon signs shaped Hong Kong’s visual identity for generations. This exhibition brings several restored heritage signs back into public view, allowing their familiar glow to rekindle stories of craftsmanship, commerce and everyday urban life. Each piece reflects the skill of master neon benders, whose work fused technical precision with artistic expression.

Set alongside these revived icons are contemporary two-dimensional and three-dimensional neon works by a new generation of practitioners, expanding the medium into sculptural and experimental art forms. Together, historical and contemporary works are presented side by side, showing neon as an evolving part of Hong Kong’s creative landscape rather than a relic of the past.
