[GBA Thrills] Greater Bay Area Drives China’s Foreign Trade Expansion
: :

Foreign trade across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area posted a strong start to the year, with total imports and exports reaching over 227 billion U.S. dollars in January and February, a 22.4 percent year-on-year increase.

The growth outpaced the national rate by 4.1 percentage points, underscoring the region’s expanding role as a key engine of China’s external trade. The GBA accounted for 20.4 percent of the country’s total foreign trade and contributed 24.1 percent to overall growth.

Bringing together the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao with nine Guangdong cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan, the region benefits from a highly integrated industrial and logistics ecosystem.

A key contributor has been the Hong Kong International Airport Dongguan Logistics Park, which leverages sea-air intermodal services to connect manufacturing with global markets. Notably, high-end manufacturing goods, including integrated circuits and displays, made up more than 74 percent of its trade, reflecting a continued shift towards higher-value exports.
