The Greater Bay Area is in full bloom, and Foshan is building a bigger business around the kapok flower. Traditional clothing, intangible cultural heritage–inspired products, and other businesses are blending with spring blossoms, turning flower viewing from a simple sightseeing trip into an industry chain that helps drive consumer spending.
Places such as Leliu Wharf and the riverbank “flower sea” in Beishui Village have become popular stopovers for visitors from across the Greater Bay Area. Since the start of spring, foot traffic at Foshan’s major flower-viewing areas has risen by more than 35% year on year.
Artists in the area are also drawing inspiration from seasonal flowers to create everyday clothing and decorative art pieces. A Hanfu designer has combined kapok petal patterns with the traditional Xiangyunsha silk technique. From seeing flowers in the field to wearing them in cultural products, Foshan is turning spring beauty into real economic value.
