Imagine setting sail across open coastal waters and watching iconic skylines appear on the horizon—completely hassle-free.A quiet revolution is happening across southern China’s Greater Bay Area. For the first time ever, private yachts can travel seamlessly in both directions between mainland Guangdong and Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s waters is opening up like never before—and it’s laying the groundwork for a multi-billion-dollar luxury boom.
Under the framework, all Guangdong-registered yachts with an offshore navigation range of up to 20 nautical miles and a wave resistance capability of at least 2 metres may apply to visit Hong Kong. What used to be a complex web of maritime permits is now as simple as a few clicks online. Captains can prep their journeys digitally and set sail from key coastal hubs including Nansha Ferry Terminal in Guangzhou, Shekou Cruise Homeport in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Airport Ferry Terminal, Jiuzhou Port Passenger Terminal in Zhuhai, Wanshan Port in Zhuhai, and Sunsea Yacht Club Marina in Zhongshan Port
And this is just the beginning. With the global luxury yacht industry projected to cross $350 billion by 2032, Hong Kong is positioning itself as Asia’s premier superyacht destination. To support this booming maritime ecosystem, four major new yacht hubs are underway—spanning from the airport waterfront to serene Lamma Island. They will bring over 1,100 new berths and world-class marina facilities to the area. As boundaries dissolve on the water, the Greater Bay Area isn't just opening up its coastline—it’s shaping the future of global maritime travel.
